Participants

Gas Operatives identified as potential team leaders, installing, maintaining or replacing gas service installations within the UK gas network.

Aim

To provide learners with the ability to develop the skills, knowledge and competency to install and maintain assets (gas services) to national standards.

Objectives

Candidates to achieve City & Guilds Level 2 Diploma in Network Construction Operations (Gas) - Service layer, leading to Energy & Utility Skills accreditation, which is a mandatory requirement for individuals undertaking service laying activities on the UK gas network. To enable candidates to demonstrate competence against the EUS framework, allowing Gas Industry Registration Scheme (GIRS) status to be achieved with Lloyd’s Register.

Candidates must obtain a number of credits from the mandatory units depending on the pathway chosen:

37 credits - Service layer (Self lay) 

41 credits - Service layer (Distribution)

52 credits - Service layer (Repair & Maintenance) 

Further optional units are also availble as part of the scheme.

This qualification is an opportunity for progression for learners who have already completed the Level 1 Certificate in Network Construction Operations (Gas).

Content

The course will help to develop technical skills in areas such as excavating, welding operations, operating tools & machinery, installation & maintenance of services while maintaining safety standards.

Methods

Trainer/Assessor led theory and practical sessions, including awarding body written and practical assessments.

Pre-requisites

Candidates should possess a current SHEA Gas Safety, Health and Environmental Awareness competency. Additional training can be provided if required.
