Safe Control of Operations 1, 2 & 5 (AE/CP)

All gas industry personnel involved in operational works on the Gas Networks and certain types of meter installations including, but not strictly limited to those who are, or will become: Named Authorising Engineers or Named Competent Persons for Routine Operations, Permits To Work and/or Forms Of Authority.


To ensure nominated individuals satisfy Gas Network/EU Skills national standards applicable to authorising engineers or competent persons for routine operations.


On completion of the course succesful participants will be able to:

  • State the roles and responsibilities outlined in the procedure
  • State when the various permitry types are used
  • State the requirements for maintaining records
  • Describe the process for transferring individuals between companies
  • Describe the deviation and communication process
  • State the inspection, monitoring and audit requirements
  • Demonstrate application of Permits to Work and Forms of Authority 
  • State the legislation and drivers for Routine Operations
  • Demonstrate application of Routine Operations



Trainer led theory, case studies and written assessments


To attend this course, you are required to be a technically competent person nominated by their Reviewing Manager. For Authorising Engineers to be a person with the ability, appropriate training, knowledge and experience to authorise work to be undertaken in a safe and proper manner. For Competent Person, to have the ability, appropriate training, knowledge and experience to supervise and/or carry out work on site in a safe and proper manner. Candidates must posses the appropriate skills to carry out their role, this includes suitable reading & writing skills.
