First Line Managers / Supervisors who manage day to day Gas Engineering Network activities


To provide an overview of Gas Network Operations, techniques, policy & procedures and current legislation for Managers / Supervisors new to the sector.


On completion of the course, candidates will be able to:

  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of C.O.P.ís, HS&E Legislation and Industry standards applicable to Gas Network Operations.
  • State the pressure regimes on a typical Gas Network.
  • Install and commission mains & service assets.
  • State the requirements of a direct purge operation.
  • Identify correct Flow stop techniques including Metallic Bag Off and P.E. squeeze off.
  • Identify and complete relevant documentation.
  • Plan a low pressure mains testing and purging operation.
  • Identify correct jointing techniques.
  • Discuss the hazards associated with working with live gas.
  • List P.P.E used within the Gas industry.
  • Operate current gas detection equipment.
  • Identify current pipes and fittings.
  • State the correct procedures for pipe handling and storage.

    This programme will provide a sound fundamental introduction to Gas Operations for managers who possess existing skills and experience within the Utilities sector.
