NRSWA Unit 1 Location & Avoidance of Underground Apparatus

Participants

Experienced operatives who are required to locate underground apparatus on the highway.

Aim

To provide support and direction to assist experienced operatives to avoid danger from underground apparatus through effective location techniques.

Objectives

On successful completion of the course, participants should be able to:

  Identify the safe working methods to locate and find utilities apparatus

Interpret drawing office records

Be proficient in the use of appropriate plant location equipment e.g.Cat & Genny

Recognise damage to utilities apparatus

Undertake the unit 1 assessment.

Succesful participants will achieve unit 1 certification from the awarding body.

Content

The course will cover:
  • Avoiding danger from underground apparatus (HSG47)
  • Drawing office records
  • Laying positions of utilities apparatus (NJUG 7)
  • Identification of utilities apparatus
  • Unit 1 assessment

Methods

Lecture, demonstration, written & practical exercises and assessment

Pre-requisites

Experienced in the use of plant location and avoidance equipment.
