Operatives working within deep excavations and Managers with responsibility for personnel working in Deep Excavations

Aim

To provide an overview of legislation and safe working practice pertaining to deep excavations, including dangerous situations and appropriate methods of ground support

Objectives

On completion of the course, candidates will be able to:  State legislation pertaining to work in deep excavations  State the hazards and risks associated with work in deep excavations  Identify unsafe situations  Identify appropriate ground support systems.

Content

Assessment of various ground support systems as to correct installation and methodology for different types of ground condition. 

Methods

Pre knowledge assessment using examples/slides depicting actual on site installations of ground support systems. Trainer led theory sessions, followed by written assessments and onsite inspection.

Pre-requisites

Existing knowledge of work in excavations.
